RFID's been around but finds little use in tires

The Automotive Industry Action Group, a standards-setting body for the auto and tire industries, issued the first interim tire tracking standard for RFID early in 2002. Since then, a number of tire makers and technology companies have announced various projects involving RFID. Safety Research & Strategies Inc., the Rehoboth, Mass.-based consumer safety group, champions RFID as a solution to what it sees as a badly flawed tire recall system.
